Barcelona interested in signing Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have a brilliant striker in Benjamin Sesko, but their £74m signing already has a potential suitor this summer.

The Slovenian had a promising first season at Old Trafford, scoring 12 goals in 32 appearances. Under Michael Carrick especially, Sesko proved a worthy option up front for United.

A player not yet the full package, Sesko has room to grow. But other clubs could look to prise him away from England before that can become reality.

Following the exit of Robert Lewandowski, Spanish side Barcelona are looking to sign a striker this summer.

According to Spanish outlet MARCA, Julian Alvarez is the Blaugrana’s favoured option, and sits top of their shortlist, but Sporting Director and former player Deco has options prepared if the signing cannot be made.

As part of this shortlist, Serhou Guirassy and Etta Eyong are options, alongside Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko. The signing of the Red Devils’ striker would make sense, as a similar profile to the departing Lewandowski, but be hard to complete.

Upon the departure of the Pole, Barca manager Hansi Flick declared, “We need a striker who’s connected with the team, but who also scores goals. We have a clear idea of what we need; now we have to wait for the transfer market. It won’t be easy, but we’ll try our best.”

This feels a close description of Benjamin Sesko, and the Spanish club’s interest comes as no real surprise. But to force Manchester United’s hand will be a huge ask, as the club view the player as the future in their forward line.

United signed Benjamin Sesko in a lucrative £74m deal in 2025. Barcelona are going to have to offer a huge amount more than that to get anywhere in negotiations, with the Red Devils needing to replace him if Sesko were to leave.

The transfer being completed appears unlikely for now, but Barcelona’s interest is certainly something to keep an eye on, especially if they fail to land Julian Alvarez.
