Just weeks after the football community came together to support England's Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after they received online racist abuse following the loss to Italy on penalties in the final of the UEFA European Championship, Barcelona 18-year-old Ilaix Moriba shared that he's been racially abused.
Per Sam Marsden of ESPN, Ilaix shared a video on his TikTok account on Monday showing examples of racist messages he's received amid questions about his future with the Catalan club. Marsden added Ilaix's contract runs out next summer, and Sangam Desai of Sports Illustrated recently noted reigning Premier League champions Manchester City could pursue Ilaix this summer.
Ilaix has been made to train with Barcelona's B-team during the preseason as contract talks have reportedly soured.
According to Marsden, four people were arrested by British police for their alleged involvement in sending racist messages to Rashford, Sancho, and Saka after they missed their attempts from the penalty spot in the shootout defeat to Italy. Saka later called on outlets such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to do more to combat hate-filled and racist messages.
