Barcelona took on Real Madrid on Sunday, Jan. 11, at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, for the Spanish Super Cup final. The Cules won 3-2 and took the trophy.
Barcelona had reached the final after a 5-0 win over Athletic Club on Jan. 7, while Real Madrid had advanced with a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid on Jan. 8.
For its part, Barcelona was the defending champion and record 15-time winner of the competition, whereas Real Madrid had 13 titles. The most recent league meeting between the sides had ended 2-1 in favor of Real Madrid on Oct. 26, 2025.
Hansi Flick's team arrived in good spirits for this match, with Lamine Yamal fit to start after being eased back in the semifinal. On the other hand, Real Madrid was boosted by Kylian Mbappe rejoining the squad in Jeddah, with late fitness checks for Rodrygo and Antonio Rudiger after the semifinal.
Raphinha was the clear MVP, as he scored two goals, which gave a strong boost to Barcelona. Gonzalo Garcia and Vinicius Jr. stood out for Real Madrid, but it was not enough.
