Bayern Munich open their Bundesliga campaign today as the defending champions host VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.

Vincent Kompany’s side have already defeated rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup final, and the Belgian manager will now aim for a winning start to the league campaign with another positive result today.

Last season, Bayern finished 16 points clear of second-place Dortmund while playing an attacking style of soccer led by Harry Kane, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise.

They also reached the semifinals of the Champions League and lifted the DFB-Pokal, making it a highly successful season for the club.

Both squads are dealing with several fitness concerns ahead of today’s matchup.

For Bayern, midfielder Jamal Musiala is unavailable as he continues his recovery after suffering seizures during the warmup games, while Serge Gnabry remains sidelined with a thigh tendon injury.

On a positive note for Kompany, Lennart Karl has returned to the Bayern squad following a torn muscle fiber injury.

Regarding Musiala’s condition, Kompany stated that the situation was under control.

“The situation is under control, Jamal is used to adjusting his treatment doses, and his return will be gradual and at the time determined by the specialist medical staff. The most important thing is that he is fine now,” he said.

VfB Stuttgart, meanwhile, will be without Dennis Seimen, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Nikolas Nartey, Justin Diehl and Jeremy Arévalo.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß also confirmed that it is still too early for new signing Leo Sauer to make his debut. Jamie Leweling, who missed their cup match due to illness, has recovered and traveled to Munich with the squad, while winger Chris Führich remains a doubt.
