Bayern v Auckland Makes Mockery of Tournament That Left Out Liverpool and Barcelona

It all must have sounded great on paper; clubs from every continent and every soccer federation joining together. But so far..so bad.

Yesterday Lionel Messi's Inter Miami played out a drab 0-0 draw with Egyptian Champions Al Ahly in the Club World Cup opener.

Now, at half time in today's game, German champions Bayern Munich lead New Zealand' Auckland City 6-0 in one of the most stupidly lopsided competitive fixtures you'll ever see.

Superstars v Forklift Drivers

Bayern Munich are a European powerhouse packed with elite internationals; Auckland City are literally and figuratively a bunch of amateurs, who alongside their lives as soccer players have careers as forklift drivers, soda salesmen and real estate agents.

Lest we forget the tournament does not feature reigning Premier League Champions Liverpool and reigning La Liga Champions, Barcelona. Inarguably two of the best sides in the world featuring inarguably two of the best players in the world - Salah and Yamal.

But based on the formula FIFA used to select the teams they were omitted and instead we have this utterly pointless exercise to endure.

You might be forgiven for not even knowing that the Club World Cup has begun given the underwhelming response in many quarters. Some British newspapers are doing live updates for the England U21 match right now and completely ignoring the Bayern v Auckland match that is occurring at the same time.

Can you blame them?
