Manchester United are preparing to take on Sunderland this weekend after sealing Champions League football for next season.

Currently sat in third place, The Red Devils need only three more points to seal their position for the 2025/26 campaign, seeing a massive bounce back from last year.

United ended last season in 15th under Ruben Amorim, having inherited a horrific start from Erik ten Hag, failing to turn things around.

This season saw Amorim leave Old Trafford in January, with Michael Carrick taking the helm and leading The Red Devils to their top-four slot.

The former Manchester United midfielder has seemingly turned things around with the club and got the best out of new signings like Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenia international has found his feet in his debut season at Old Trafford, scoring 12 goals and grabbing a single assist across 32 games.

However, The Sun has now reported that the United striker is now in doubt for The Red Devils’ trip to Sunderland this weekend.

Benjamin Sesko suffers shin injury against Liverpool

During the clash with Liverpool, Sesko came into contact with Ibrahima Konate, seeing him shoved off the pitch, careering off the pitch.

After scoring in the first half, Benjamin Sesko was taken off at half-time, watching the second half from the dugout, however was seen limping heavily on his way there.

After the game, Carrick commented: “He (Sesko)’s been carrying a bit of a shin problem for some time and it was when he got pushed into the hoarding and down the dip.”

As such, United are now assessing the injury before confirming if he’ll be able to make the trip to the Stadium of Light.

This is, unfortunately, just another injury linked to the Old Trafford pitch perimeter, with the club confirming back in October 2025 that they would consider redesigning the area for better safety.
