Marcus Rashford could reportedly face another major obstacle in his hopes of securing a permanent move to Barcelona this summer following fresh developments involving Bernardo Silva.
The Manchester United forward spent the season on loan at Barcelona after the Spanish side agreed a deal containing a €30 million buy option.
However, Barcelona failed to activate the clause before the deadline despite Rashford impressing during his spell in Spain.
The club have still been linked with bringing him back.
But their plans now appear focused elsewhere.
Barcelona were recently linked with a huge €100m move for Julian Alvarez.
Anthony Gordon has also emerged as a serious option after reports claimed the Catalan side submitted a £70m bid.
Now, another Premier League star has moved towards the top of their shortlist.
According to Cadena SER, Barcelona are accelerating their move for Bernardo Silva.
The 31-year-old midfielder will be leaving Manchester City at the end of his contract.
The report states Hansi Flick is a huge admirer of Bernardo and wants more depth and experience in his squad ahead of next season.
Cadena SER also claim Bernardo has prioritised Barcelona over other offers.
Importantly for United fans, the report adds his arrival could shut the door on Rashford returning to the Nou Camp.
Barcelona reportedly believe Bernardo fits their current project better because of his versatility and experience at the highest level.
The Portuguese international recently said goodbye to Manchester City supporters following Pep Guardiola’s final season at the Etihad.
Bernardo Silva remains one of Europe’s most respected midfielders after years of success under Guardiola.
His availability on a free transfer has naturally attracted huge interest across Europe.
For Marcus Rashford, though, Barcelona’s growing interest in alternative attacking options could leave his long-term future uncertain once again heading into the summer transfer window.
