For some clubs steeped in history, they won’t have had just one notable player wearing a particular number, which is why in this, we’ll be looking at the best Arsenal players to ever wear the number 14 jersey.

Paul Merson

Now known more for his time as a pundit, Paul Merson was once a seasoned attacker for the Gunners who pulled the strings for a decade. He made over 400 appearances for the team, scoring 99 goals and contributing 51 assists.

He won two league titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup, the European Cup Winners’ Cup, and was PFA Young Player of the Year in 1989 before being named in the PFA Team of the Season in 1998.

David O’Leary

Almost a one-club man David O’Leary played for Arsenal across 18 seasons as a regular from 1975 until his departure in 1993. He made an impressive 722 appearances for the side across all competitions, the most of any player in the team’s history. He is quite a distance ahead of second-place Tony Adams with 669.

His talents saw him win not just multiple league trophies but he was also named in the first division’s team of the season on three seperate occasions and was a Ballon d’Or nominee in 1980 as a centre-back.

Ray Parlour

Ray Parlour was a midfielder who came through the Gunners’ academy and spent 12 years in the squad before his departure. He made over 450 appearances for his boyhood club, nabbing 31 goals and 29 assists in that time. He was part of some excellent teams under Arsene Wenger, even being named player of the season in 1998.

Parlour was part of the great squad of the late 90s that went toe-to-toe with Sir Alex Ferguson, he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a League Cup, and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup during his run.

Martin Keown

Martin Keown was a homegrown talent who was initially sold before making his name at Aston Villa and Everton before returning home. He was a versatile defender who could play across the back line and was part of the excellent Tony Adams-led defence in the late 90s.

He finished his time with the side in 2004, making almost 450 appearances across all competitions, being named as the team’s player of the season in 1995/96 and winning multiple trophies including three Premier Leagues.

Thierry Henry

No list of the greatest Arsenal players to wear the number 14 jersey is complete without one of their best ever. The dazzling Frenchman Thierry Henry is one of the greatest players to grace the field during the Premier League era. He ended his time as a Gunner with a ridiculous record of 228 goals and 101 assists in 377 matches.

He led the team to two Premier League titles and the final of the Champions League while finishing in the top three for Ballon d’Or voting on two occasions, winning four Premier League golden boot awards, being named league player of the season twice, and collecting a host of other personal accolades along the way.
