Jersey numbers are an important part of football, icons have blazed their trails all while adorned by a familiar number on their back. While kit numbers used to jump around, they have since settled down, which in some cases leads to a who’s who having a claim to a single digit. For some clubs steeped in history, they won’t have had just one notable player wearing a particular number, which is why in this, we’ll be looking at the best Chelsea players to ever wear the number 19  jersey.

Best Chelsea Players to Wear the Number 19 Jersey of All Time

Tammy Abraham

Cobham star and part of one of the best youth sides in recent memory Tammy Abraham for a while looked like the homegrown solution to the exits of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa. The hard-working, tall striker had a mix of skills and athleticism that could’ve made him an elite marksman.

He was given the reins in the 2019/2020 campaign and produced a return of 18 goals in 47 appearances, which dipped the next year to 12 in 32. That proved to be the end of his tenure with the Blues but it’s hard not to think about what could’ve been with more patience.

Mason Mount

A rather unfortunate ending to hsi time at the club and an even more unfortunate career arc have soured many on the legacy of Mason Mount. Despite that, he’s definitely one of the best to have the number 19 jersey, if up against limited competition. He, like Abraham, was a homegrown product and looked like the next great name to come from Cobham for a while.

He ended up scoring 33 times and assisting 37 for the Blues in 195 appearances before departing for Manchester United. Despite everything that went wrong, it isn’t often a Chelsea academy lad goes on to make almost 200 senior appearances and win the Champions League.

Paulo Ferreira

While he wore this specific number during some of the more rocky periods of his career, it can’t be forgotten how useful Ferreria was upon arrival from Porto to the Premier League winning campaign. A reliable right back at his best, the Portuguese man made over 200 appearances for the team.

He ended his career as a blue with a hefty trophy cabinet including three Premier League wins, four FA Cup triumphs, the Champions League, and the Europa League.

Tor Andre Flo

An interesting career arc for Tor Andre Flor saw him plucked from Brann to an upstart Premier League side before moving on to Rangers. While at the Blues, Flo dealt with a lot of competition and Gianluca Vialli’s interesting management style but managed to chip in with goals consistently.

He netted 19 times in 1999/00 as the top scorer for the team and managed to get 50 total strikes across all competitions in just 163 appearances over the years. He was a key part of rising the tide in the late 90s as the side became regulars in the Champions League and won the FA Cup.

Diego Costa

Diego Costa was an absolute spark plug upon his arrival. A no-nonsense bullying striker he arrived after a run of dysmal Drogba replacements that saw old man Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba combine for single-digit goals while Fernando Torres tried his best.

Costa immediately made his mark, scoring on his debut and forming a partnership with fellow new signing Cesc Fabregas that fired the Blues to the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho during his second time in charge. The admittedly controversial striker finished his short stint in England with 59 goals and 21 assists in 120 appearances.
