Darts is a sport that has grown into a worldwide sensation for many reasons, but one key factor is its ability to create an electric atmosphere that excites fans both in the arena and at home.

One of the best decisions in the history of the entire sport is to allow players to have a solo walk-on, combined with their own selected musical accompaniment. Designed to get them into the mood to win, it also involves the crowd and ignites a brilliant few minutes that only escalates the enjoyment and anticipation.

Some are forgettable, some are over-played but some have become iconic, forming part of a player's brand and becoming songs that fans cannot wait to sing along to. With that in mind, here's the best darts walk-on music from across history.

Luke Littler — 'Green Light' by Pitbull ft. Flo Rida & LunchMoney

Luke Littler is the modern phenomenon of darts, and he has a catchy walk-on song to match, with Pitbull's 'Greenlight' heralding his entrance to the arena. Though he has rubbed a few up the wrong way in his brief career thus far, the crowd usually gets involved, singing the chorus for the man amateurs are queuing up to face in Netflix's Beat Luke Littler challenge.

Wayne Mardle – 'Hawaii Five-O' by The Ventures

Few players have built an entire persona around a walk-on quite like Wayne Mardle. 'Hawaii 501' strutted out to The Ventures' surf-rock TV theme in a trademark Hawaiian shirt, turning every entrance into a burst of colour.

He never lifted the world title despite four PDC World Championship semi-finals, but his entrance remains one of the most recognisable of his era.

Daryl Gurney – 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond

There may be no more reliable sing-along in sport than Neil Diamond's 1969 hit, one of the songs and chants adopted by England fans, and Daryl Gurney uses it to full effect.

The Northern Irishman does not simply walk to the oche. He stops at the front of the stage and conducts the crowd through the chorus with sweeping arm gestures. Even fellow players cite it as the benchmark for crowd participation.

Luke Humphries – 'I Predict a Riot' by Kaiser Chiefs

Luke Humphries spent years walking out to DNCE's 'Cake by the Ocean', a song he admitted was not the best in the world and which crowds never fully latched on to - until he found a song more fitting of his stature.

The fix came on a Premier League night in Leeds in May 2024. A devoted Leeds United fan, Humphries debuted the city's own Kaiser Chiefs in a Leeds-inspired shirt, the crowd bellowed the chorus, and he beat Rob Cross 6-1. The song already had darts heritage, having been Kevin Painter's walk-on, which forced Dave Chisnall to pick another tune when he joined the PDC.

Gary Anderson – 'Jump Around' by House of Pain

Some walk-ons are carefully curated. Gary Anderson's is not. 'The Flying Scotsman' has admitted he cannot remember how he ended up with House of Pain's hip-hop anthem, saying it simply came about and he got used to it.

That unfussy approach suits the two-time world champion, one of the greatest British darts players in history, perfectly. The song's insistent call to jump does the work for him, getting arenas bouncing while the two-time world champ strolls to the oche with minimal fuss.

Phil Taylor – '(I've Got) The Power' by Snap!

Some walk-ons need no explanation, and that includes Phil Taylor's. 'The Power' walked out to Snap!'s early-90s dance anthem, a song that doubled as a statement of intent.

For a 16-time world champion who tops any ranking of the greatest darts players in history, the song became shorthand for dominance, and it still drew a rapturous reception when Taylor returned to the Circus Tavern for the World Seniors Darts Championship.

Michael van Gerwen – 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes

The riff is a terrace staple across Europe, and Michael van Gerwen has made it his own for more than a decade. Especially given the prelude that includes an opening excerpt from "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd, making it even more epic.

The Dutchman has linked it to Manchester United fans singing Robin van Persie's name over the tune, and he has stuck with it because he has won so much to it. For a three-time world champion, the stomping beat fits like a glove especially given he was the undisputed number one for a lenghly period after Taylor's retirement.

Nathan Aspinall – 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers

Nathan Aspinall swapped Depeche Mode's 'Just Can't Get Enough' for The Killers' indie anthem in 2019. His logic was simple: he wanted the song that gets everyone up on a night out.

He reportedly weighed it against a track from The Greatest Showman before settling on 'Mr Brightside', and the crowd at the World Championship responded immediately. Aspinall has admitted he has grown sick of hearing it, but the reaction is too big to abandon.

William O'Connor – 'Zombie' by The Cranberries

Few walk-ons carry as much local pride as this one. William O'Connor hails from Cappamore in County Limerick, the same county as Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan, and the band was formed in Limerick in 1989.

'The Magpie' saw the song's power at its fullest when he made his Premier League Darts debut as a contender in Dublin in 2020. Thousands of Irish fans at the 3Arena sang every word back, producing one of the most spine-tingling entrances the sport has seen. Even watching it now, the goosebumps are incredible and its a true moment in time.

Stephen Bunting – 'Titanium' by David Guetta ft. Sia

Stephen Bunting's reinvention as 'The People's Champion' owes plenty to a change of music. He previously walked on to The Trashmen's 'Surfin' Bird', but fans' constant demands for the Family Guy-inspired bird dance became wearing, and his son was even asked about it at school.

'Titanium', his son Toby's favourite song, gave him a fresh start. It peaked on a Premier League night in Berlin, where the crowd sang it during his first win in the competition, sealed with a nine-darter. Its since become part of the Bunting brand and its a classic every single time.
