Bologna head coach Vincenzo Italiano has been hospitalised with pneumonia and is expected to miss his side’s next two matches in the Europa League and Serie A as a result according to Tuesday’s reports.

Italiano hospitalised for five days with pneumonia

The club have confirmed that Italiano has been admitted to hospital at the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic in Bologna, and is expected to stay there for five days as he receives treatment for pneumonia.

According to Sky Sport Italia , Italiano’s condition is already ‘slowly improving’, but he will not be able to take part in Thursday’s Europa League clash against FCSB (formerly known as Steaua Bucuresti), or the Serie A match against Fiorentina on Sunday.

“Yesterday, Vincenzo Italiano was hospitalised at the the pulmonology department at Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic due to pneumonia, likely caused by bacteria (not due to Covid).

“The coach will stay in hospital for about five days. His clinical situation is slowly improving. Updates will follow in the coming days.

“The best wishes from the whole club go to Vincenzo, hoping for a speedy recovery.”

It is expected that Italiano’s assistant, Daniel Niccolini, will deputise in the head coach’s absence.

Bologna currently sit in fifth place in the Serie A table after seven matches, having most recently beaten Cagliari 2-0 at the Unipol Domus on Sunday. The Rossoblu are currently undefeated over their last four league fixtures.
