Tottenham will have some big decisions to make to rebuild their squad.

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign top players in the summer as they look to rebuild the squad after a disastrous campaign.

The Lilywhites are currently stranded in the bottom three of the table, having not won a league game in 15 matches. Therefore, it is important that they secure top-flight status in the coming weeks before turning their attention to signing players who can help them close the gap on their rivals next season.

It is clear that the North Londoners need to fortify their attacking department in the summer. There is a lack of quality and depth in those positions, and the ongoing injury crisis at N17 has not helped the club’s cause either.

The N17 bosses need to be proactive in the upcoming transfer window and sign players who can make an instant impact under Roberto De Zerbi. The club cannot afford to invest only in raw talent who may or may not make their mark, so the board must be prepared to invest heavily in proven quality instead.

Tottenham get boost in their pursuit of Brentford star

Spurs have been interested in signing Brentford striker Igor Thiago. The 24-year-old has been in rollicking form for Brentford this season, netting 24 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions thus far. With 21 strikes in 33 Premier League outings, he is challenging Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Igor Thiago became the first Brazilian in Premier League history to score 20 goals or more in a single season when he netted twice in Brentford’s win over Everton earlier this month. The Brazilian international’s goalscoring exploits for the Bees have attracted significant attention from several clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

With interest in Thiago rapidly rising, it looks like Brentford are preparing themselves if their star marksman moves on at the end of the season. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Bees have identified Dynamo Kyiv talent Matviy Ponomarenko as a potential replacement for Thiago.

Matviy Ponomarenko has enjoyed a notable breakthrough season at Dynamo Kyiv, bagging 10 goals in 12 league appearances. The 20-year-old has caught the eye of Brentford and several other clubs across Europe with his aerial ability, physicality, hold-up play, mobility and finishing skills. The two-cap Ukrainian international is also technically sound and can link up play well.

The West Londoners have earmarked Ponomarenko as a possible replacement for Thiago, and this development should come as a surprise boost for Tottenham. This means Brentford are apparently bracing for big offers in the summer, and as Thiago saw most of his teammates poached last year, he might be in line for a similar move.

The ex-Club Brugge man would be an excellent fit for De Zerbi’s system, given his strong hold-up play, smart movement and tendency to run into channels. His clinical nature in front of goal would make the Brentford star a straight upgrade on his compatriot Richarlison at Tottenham.

No doubt, Spurs must look to test the Bees’ resolve for Thiago in the summer, provided they preserve their top-flight status.
