Lazio full-back Nuno Tavares is expected to leave the club in January, and he reportedly has a new suitor in the form of Borussia Dortmund.
The 25-year-old was one of the club’s most influential players during the first half of the previous campaign under Marco Baroni, but his momentum was derailed by a series of muscle injuries. This season, the Portuguese lost his starting berth after committing some costly mistakes at the back, especially against Roma and Bologna.
The Biancocelesti have thus decided to place the left-back on the shortlist. He has already attracted the interest of several admirers, including Sergio Conceicao’s Al-Ittihad and Besiktas, who many consider as the ultimate leaders in the race for the player’s signature. But according to Fussballeuropa.com, the negotiations between Lazio and the Turkish giants have stalled, opening the door for Dortmund.
As the German portal explains, BVB have enquired about Tavares, but have yet to open negotiations with Lazio or the player’s entourage. The source reveals that the Bundesliga giants are looking to add a new left wing-back to their ranks, as Daniel Svensson is the only natural choice for the role. Julian Ryerson has been used on both flanks, while Ramy Bensebaini is mostly featuring as a left centre-back.
Lazio will be keen to offload Tavares this month, as his departure would allow them to bring forward the arrival of Alvaro Pedraza. The 29-year-old has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Biancocelesti, so he’s all set to join the club next summer once his deal with Villarreal expires. However, Claudio Lotito and Co. still have hope of buying him on a January cut-price.
