Managerial movement across the Premier League is beginning to take shape ahead of the summer, and one of the names linked with Manchester United is now available.

With clubs already planning for next season, decisions made now could have a ripple effect across multiple managerial situations.

Andoni Iraola will officially step down as Bournemouth manager at the end of the campaign, as announced on their website, bringing an end to a progressive spell at the Vitality Stadium.

His departure comes after he informed the club of his decision during the recent international break, despite having signed an extension in May 2024.

The club’s official statement wrote, “AFC Bournemouth can confirm that Head Coach, Andoni Iraola, will leave the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to his successful three-year tenure on the south coast.”

Iraola initially arrived in the summer of 2023, replacing Gary O’Neil, and quickly made an impact by guiding the Cherries to a 12th-place finish in his debut season.

He followed that up by matching the club’s highest-ever Premier League finish of ninth, firmly establishing Bournemouth as a competitive mid-table side with ambitions of pushing further.

This season, Bournemouth are still chasing history, sitting 11th and just 2 points off the top seven with 6 matches remaining, meaning European qualification, something the club has never achieved, remains a real possibility.

Their most recent encounter with United happened before the international break and ended in a 2-2 draw, a result that reflected how far Iraola’s side have come in competing with the league’s biggest names.

Andoni Iraola thanked the club by saying, ““It has been an honour to manage AFC Bournemouth and I am proud of what we have achieved together.

“I’m thankful to the players and staff that I’ve worked with, as well as Bill, who have all made my time here so special.

“As for the fans, you have continued to show your fantastic support to myself and the team, and for that I will always be grateful.

“I feel this is the right moment for me to step away, but I will always carry fantastic memories of this club.”

Bournemouth are already moving quickly to secure a successor, with Marco Rose emerging as a leading candidate, as reported by talkSPORT.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss is under serious consideration.

The club are expected to act swiftly to finalise an appointment.

Iraola’s name had previously been linked with the managerial role at Old Trafford.

However, those links have cooled in recent months, with Michael Carrick still firmly in contention for the permanent position.

At the same time, United’s search appears to be focusing on other high-profile candidates, with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann now sitting at the top of the club’s wishlist.

Reports indicate that Nagelsmann is set to be formally approached this week as United weigh up their long-term direction.

Last year, Bournemouth managing director Tiago Pinto appeared relaxed when asked about interest from United, but the situation has now clearly evolved with Iraola’s exit confirmed.

As Bournemouth prepare for life after Iraola, and United continue their search for stability in the dugout, the managerial dominoes are beginning to fall.
