Brighton & Hove Albion close to signing Manchester United defender

Manchester United may still sell several defenders before the transfer window closes.

Michael Carrick has already strengthened other areas of his squad this summer.

However, United may need to raise funds before completing more deals.

The club’s defensive depth has therefore become a major talking point.

Diogo Dalot could attract interest from AC Milan.

Former United manager Ruben Amorim worked closely with the Portugal international at Old Trafford.

Dalot was one of his most trusted players and often featured on either side of the pitch.

Harry Maguire also signed a new contract earlier this year.

Even so, that deal has not completely ended speculation over his future.

Another United defender is now moving closer to an exit.

Brighton move closer to agreement for United defender

According to BBC Sport, Brighton & Hove Albion are close to signing Manchester United Women defender Gabby George.

The 29-year-old wants more regular game time before the new Women’s Super League season.

Brighton are expected to pay a six-figure fee for the versatile defender.

George joined United from Everton in 2023.

She has since made more than 50 appearances across all competitions and helped the club win the Women’s FA Cup in 2024.

The defender previously developed in Manchester United’s youth system before beginning her senior career with Everton.

She made more than 100 appearances for the Merseyside club before returning to United.

George can play at left-back or in central defence.

She also has three senior England caps and would add valuable experience to Brighton’s squad.

The Seagulls have already made several signings this summer.

Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo are among the players who have joined Dario Vidosic’s side.

George still has one year left on her United contract.

The club activated an extension clause in January, so Brighton must pay a transfer fee to complete the deal.

A move would end George’s three-year spell at Old Trafford and give her the chance to play more regularly next season.
