Bruno Fernandes has cemented his place as one of the best post-Sir Alex Ferguson era Manchester United players in his time at the club.
Leading from the front as captain, the Portuguese international’s immense quality was once again on show last Sunday against Ipswich Town with him scoring a hat-trick to take his side from falling behind to commandingly in control.
That performance marked just his third United hat-trick and was a major marker in earning him the club’s Player of the Month award for August whilst also seeing him nominated for the Premier League’s monthly accolade.
Those performances have led on from a spectacular 2025/26 campaign, which saw him break the Premier League’s assists record, lead his side to Champions League qualification, and scoop the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.
Fernandes’ success in that season was build on the front of his pre-match routine, which saw him re-watch United matches to analyse his own performances.
He has now dumped that pre-match routine, however, with him reducing his routine to watching small clips provided by the club in an effort to further let himself go following games.
“I normally do. I stopped a little bit because I was too much into the previous game,” Bruno Fernandes said to The Sun when asked about watching re-runs of his games.
“Two years ago, I used to get home and watch the full 90 minutes of the game straight away.
“My wife and kids have gone to bed and I was watching the game back in the living room.
“I would stop the game and look at the frame where I missed a pass or a shot. I tried to understand the process behind it.
“But I wasn’t letting myself go from the last game. I thought, ‘I need to start moving forward’.
“I looked at the mistakes that I did before and I would need to make it right. Sometimes the mistake I did would be the right decision for the next game.
“I have learned with the process to let it go. I now go with small bits and clips the club gives us.”
Fernandes’ season continues today with Manchester United facing Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.
On the team’s last visit to today’s opponents, United walked away with all three points thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s second-half winner although Bruno Fernandes did not score or assist.
Today could reveal whether the Manchester United captain has learnt his lessons from that game from his new routine and is able to put forward more attacking contributions in the match.
