Bruno Fernandes has rejected a contract offer from Manchester United, adding another concern to an increasingly chaotic situation at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick’s side have won just two of their opening ten matches across all competitions, with performances falling well below expectations.
Even Carrick, who transformed United’s fortunes during his interim spell last season, now appears short of answers as his team struggles defensively and wastes opportunities going forward.
Frustration has spread beyond the pitch.
Lisandro Martinez publicly questioned technical director Jason Wilcox following United’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, suggesting Carrick had not received sufficient backing. The defender subsequently apologised.
Meanwhile, club legend Rio Ferdinand recently faced criticism after making a personal, body-shaming remark towards Manchester United content creator SaeedTV on Instagram.
Fernandes has been one of United’s greatest servants since arriving from Sporting CP in 2020, repeatedly delivering when those around him struggled.
Last season was arguably his finest. The Portuguese captain registered a record-breaking 21 Premier League assists, won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and helped United secure Champions League football.
Yet his performances this campaign have appeared more frustrated and laboured at times, reflecting the difficulties surrounding the entire team.
According to Turkish newspaper Fanatik, Fernandes has recently turned down an offer to extend his Manchester United contract.
The report claims Galatasaray are considering an ambitious move for the 32-year-old during the January transfer window.
Galatasaray executive Abdullah Kavukcu is reportedly personally involved in the proposed operation, hoping to complete one of the Turkish club’s biggest signings in recent years.
Fanatik suggests United could face a decision over whether to sell Fernandes or risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.
The newspaper adds that Galatasaray might consider moving Leroy Sane on to accommodate Fernandes.
