The Premier League is considered to be the most competitive and unforgiving domestic competition in all of Europe. From Manchester City to Liverpool and Arsenal, the best clubs in England’s top flight are feared all over Europe. Despite the tough competition and breakneck pace, Manchester City have managed to dominate the same in recent years.
That being said, one of the most exciting stories in football last season was that of Bayer Leverkusen and their unbeaten run. The club led by Xabi Alonso managed to claim both the Bundesliga title as well as the DFB-Pokal in an extremely successful season. In a recent interview, Leverkusen star Nathan Tella claimed that his club would’ve managed to finish in the top 6 of the Premier League.
I'd like to say we'd finish in the top 6 because we were that good. Nathan Tella told Rising Ballers
The attacking midfielder played a total of 39 games for his club last season, and only tasted defeat in one – the Europa League final. Fans have contrasting opinions in response to Tella’s claim.

While a few argued that the Premier League isn’t as competitive as it used to be, others claim that Leverkusen are no match for the best English clubs.
After an extremely successful season that shook the entirety of Europe, Xabi Alonso’s men are ready for more. It isn’t difficult to understand that the signings made ahead of the 2023/24 season played a huge role in facilitating Leverkusen’s success. From Alejandro Grimaldo to Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka , the list goes on.
The situation is no different in 2024, where the club have announced more than 3 major signings well ahead of the new campaign. Aleix Garcia , Jeanuel Belocian and Martin Terrier have all been unveiled as new players under Xabi Alonso. The arrival of 19-year-old Belocian not only reduces the squad average but also offers Alonso the opportunity to rotate his center-backs.

Even though Leverkusen have no issues worth fixing in midfield, the addition of Spaniard Aleix Garcia is a sign of hunger to get better and a silent announcement that the club are aiming for the next level. After ending Bayern’s dominance in the Bundesliga, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if they recreate their magical run in the Champions League next season.
