Manchester United are facing a major chance in their coaching staff once again, with Ruben Amorim, Carlos Fernandes and the rest of the team having been let go.

The news comes after Amorim and his coaches have failed to establish consistency at Old Trafford, with a stubbornness to stick to their 3-4-3 system.

Whilst it achieved success in Portugal with Sporting CP, the same results haven’t been seen for Manchester United.

Now, the 14-month stint that was the Amorim-era is over, with his whole coaching team making way for some Old Trafford legends.

Darren Fletcher has been trusted to hold the fort until a caretaker manager is appointed, and at this stage it looks set to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Alongside him, Jonny Evans has returned alongside Under-21s manager Travis Binnion in supporting Fletcher with preparations for the trip to Burnley tomorrow.

However, as Fletcher’s team are assembled, Carlos Fernandes, Amorim’s assistant manager, has taken to Instagram to announce his departure from Old Trafford.

Posting alongside an image of his experience at Manchester United, Carlos Fernandes commented: “Thank you, Manchester United.”

“Thank you to the world-class players I had the privilege to coach and to learn from.

“Thank you to the staff members who showed true support.

“Thank you to the fans who stood by us.

“In the end, working at a football club of this dimension doesn’t just test your knowledge — it reveals character.

“A special chapter in my life. Proud to have served as Assistant Manager of Manchester United. ”

Given that Fernandes has been with Ruben Amorim since 2018, being his assistant manager at Casa Pia, Braga, Sporting and United, its a fair bet he’ll also end up wherever Amorim goes next.

A return to Portugal is seemingly on the cards, with the now-former United manager tipped to join Benfica should the opportunity arise.
