Championship side Millwall are plotting a swoop for Tottenham academy starlet Alfie Devine

Tottenham Hotspur are now beginning to seriously step up their preparations for success under Thomas Frank.

Spurs have signed Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus in this summer transfer window, and the latter has already impressed in the club’s first pre-season game against Reading last weekend. They are also trying to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, a deal that is being delayed owing to legal complaints from Nottingham Forest.

After qualifying for the Champions League next season, the Lilywhites’ spending is unlikely to stop here. But first, they must create space in the squad for new players, and that drive has already started from last week.

Alfie Dorrington has re-joined Aberdeen on a season-long loan after his fine five-month spell in the Scottish Premiership last term, while Stoke City signed Ashley Phillips for a second temporary spell on Wednesday. And now another youngster could be heading out of Tottenham- albeit on a permanent deal.

Millwall keen on signing Alfie Devine

Tottenham academy starlet Alfie Devine has emerged as a target for Millwall. According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Championship club Millwall are eyeing a permanent move for Alfie Devine following a number of loan moves away from parent club Spurs.

The English midfielder arrived at Tottenham back in 2020 from Wigan Athletic, initially linking up with the club’s famed academy. He has made two senior appearances before heading out on three separate loan deals. Devine spent last season on loan at Belgian side KVC Westerlo alongside Luka Vuskovic, netting six goals in 32 appearances.

The 20-year-old started in Spurs’ first pre-season friendly game against Reading, but that could be his final outing in a Tottenham shirt as Millwall want to bolster their midfield unit with his signing.

Alfie Devine may want to leave Tottenham for Millwall

With a move for Gibbs-White in the works, Kudus signed and the likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski already in the squad, there is plenty of competition in attacking midfield at Spurs.

Therefore, breaking into the senior Tottenham team looks a tough ask for young academy kids, especially if someone is a midfielder. Devine, too, will know that his prospects of first-team football at White Hart Lane are extremely low, and after three loan spells, it is perhaps the right time to seek a permanent move away from Tottenham and develop his career.

And if Spurs decide to sell the Warrington-born talent to Millwall, we must include both sell-on and buy-back clauses.
