Chelsea centre-back on Manchester United radar

Transfer deadline day is approaching for Manchester United, with possible deals still on the table for the club to consider before the window slams shut.

United, who have focused their summer recruitment primarily on midfield positions, signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, have expanded their search to other positions in the last few days.

With reports stating that United are still keen on signing a left-back before the window shuts, whilst also revealing that the club want to sign a striker too, links have begun to be made.

Alejandro Balde is one of those links, with clashing reports emerging about the full-back’s feelings surrounding his future at Barcelona.

With manager Hansi Flick stating that Balde still remains a part of his squad, though, it appears that the 22-year-old may stay at the LaLiga champions.

Manchester United now appear to be making their next moves ahead of deadline day with journalist Ben Jacobs revealing that Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong is currently on the club’s radar.

Jacobs, speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel, has also stated that United have discussed a move for Taylor Harwood-Bellis whilst Tosin Adarabioyo was offered to the club, too.

Josh Acheampong featured in Chelsea’s victory against Fulham on Monday evening, with him starting the game.

Having come through The Blues’ academy, the 20-year-old experienced his breakout campaign during the 2024/25 season, making 12 appearances for the side.

His influence for the team increased last season with him making 31 appearances across all competitions, whilst also scoring two goals.

It remains to be seen what the central defender’s valuation is, although Chelsea consider him to be untouchable according to Jacobs making any potential pursuit harder for Manchester United.

With time running out in this summer’s transfer window, any successful move would likely have to come in the next few days.
