This is the Chelsea confirmed lineup for their Club World Cup clash with Benfica. It is the Enzo Fernandez derby in the first knockout round of the tournament after the Blues surprisingly finished second in their group, managing to avoid being drawn against Bayern Munich, who narrowly missed out on top spot to Benfica.
Per Sofascore. Rob Sanchez starts in goal with a back line of Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, and Reece James. Romeo Lavia partners Moises Caicedo in the centre of midfield. Enzo Fernandez also comes in alongside Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, and Liam Delap
There’s some very interesting decisions made here. Enzo, Caicedo, and Lavia all start which could see Palmer shifted out right again where he was fairly ineffective against Flamengo. Badiashile starting could see him push out left while Colwill becomes the middle man of a back three when in-possession. Cucurella could invert into the number ten spot once again which would put him next to whoever plays behind Delap. Neto has been in good form which sees him get the final spot over Noni Madueke.
It will be interesting to see who slots in where and how this works as it isn’t often that this combination of players takes to the field together. James especially isn’t a certainty and while he’d be an excellent overlapping full-back he’s most likely going to play as more of a wide centre-back on the right side of a three.
Trubin, Aursnes, Otamendi, Silva, Dahl, Luis, Barreiro. Di Maria, Kokcu, Schjeldrup, Pavilidis
Stay tuned for the Chelsea confirmed lineup. There will be news as well as discussions on who started, who misses out, and what alterations the manager could make to his tactical setup.
