Chelsea legend now in line to take on first managerial job with clubs keen
Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

One Chelsea legend is in line to now take on his first job as a manager, and there are reportedly clubs interested in giving him that chance.

Many players go on to become managers at clubs when they retire from the game. However, coaching is not always for all of them.

Many former Chelsea players have gone on to coach, some of them successfully, others not so much. Will the next one to try it be Blues legend Ashley Cole?

Well, it would be a natural progression for Cole, who has had youth coaching jobs and also assistant manager jobs within senior football since he quit playing the game. Cole has been back at Chelsea in youth roles and also alongside Frank Lampard in his senior coaching setup when he was manager at the club.

He certainly seems to be determined to make it in the coaching game, but is he ready to yet take the big step to become a manager of a club?

Well, according to The Daily Mirror, it sounds like he is about to get some offers.

Birmingham are keen

Ashley Cole is being targeted by a string of Championship clubs keen to hand him his first job in management, per the report from The Mirror.

Discreet enquiries have already been made to gauge interest but Birmingham are keen to keep the former left-back at St Andrews as part of their coaching staff, following their relegation to League One.

Cole was brought to Birmingham last October to work with then-manager Wayne Rooney. Of course, Rooney did not last long in that role and was soon replaced by Tony Mowbray for a role that many expected Cole to be offered at that time.

Cole is a Chelsea legend and many Blues fans will be eagerly following along with his coaching career now and hoping for him to succeed.
