Chelsea have made up their mind about what they are going to do with Jorrel Hato in the next transfer window.
It has not been an easy start for the Dutch defender this season. He has struggled for minutes and had a tough game recently in the Champions League.
In that match against Qarabag, Hato was at fault for both goals his side conceded during their 2-2 draw.
Before that match, there were already rumours linking him with a move back to the Eredivisie, something that only intensified afterwards.
Hato’s time at Chelsea has not gone to plan so far, but the Blues are expected to give him more time to adapt and settle into his new surroundings before making a decision on his future.
The 19-year-old only joined the club this past summer, having made the switch from Ajax, and it is still too early for the club to give up on him.
Bobby Vincent was asked about Hato’s future in a Q&A session on football.london, where he said:
“There are no plans to replace Hato in January. Chelsea signed him on a long-term contract, and he has only been at the club a few months.
“Granted, it has not been an ideal start for the Dutchman, but they will not rush into any rash decisions when it comes to a player they have high hopes for,” the journalist explained.
This season, Hato has only started two matches in the Premier League. However, even if he had hit form early on, breaking into the starting XI was always going to be a tough task.
Chelsea signed him to compete with Marc Cucurella, who is currently considered by many to be England’s top left-back.
Sticking by Hato is the right call for Chelsea. A few poor performances do not define a player, especially one with his skill set.
The former Ajax defender brings versatility, able to play both at left-back and centre-back, and there have been flashes of what he can do this season.
In the match against Brighton & Hove Albion, Hato stood out as one of Chelsea’s few positives while playing in the left centre-back position.
He struggled during the Qarabag draw, appearing nervous and less confident than usual. But typically, the Netherlands international is composed on the ball.
