Enzo Maresca is soon to be announced as Man City manager – and the tale of how he left Chelsea is a juicy one.

It’s now common knowledge that Enzo Maresca, who left Chelsea in January, will be taking over from Pep Guardiola this summer at Manchester City.

The Athletic have done a long read about how the legendary coach’s successor was found, and there’s lots of juicy Chelsea info in there about how Maresca forced his way out of the club.

Maresca leaves Chelsea after rapid breakdown of relations

“City reached out to Maresca at the end of last year, and due to the terms of the Italian’s contract at Chelsea, he informed his employers about the talk,” Sam Lee writes.

“Things appeared to go downhill quickly and soon afterwards they parted ways.”

So Maresca had to inform Chelsea of talks with other clubs – but that doesn’t mean they had to like it.

The Blues are “still furious” about how things played out. People at the club “noticed a change” in Maresca after he won the Club World Cup and felt he had more leverage. The City contacts gave him even more confidence, and Chelsea couldn’t tolerate it.

It feels like we could get some juicy City – Chelsea games in the years to come…

Chelsea fans would despair – but it does seem like Josh Acheampong could be sold this summer.

Reece James feels he was written off by someone people – but he’s going to the World Cup to prove them all wrong.
