This is the latest Chelsea team news for their Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers. This will include the most recent comments from manager Liam Rosenior from Thursday’s press conference, before offering a predicted lineup based on recent lineups and availability concerns. This is an easy win on paper against last-placed Wolves but their form since the turn of the year has been far better, meaning they have got at least a few points on the board for once.
Rob Sanchez has started in goal as the first-choice option. The back line has seen Malo Gusto, Wes Fofana, Jorrel Hato, Marc Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Josh Acheampong, and Trevoh Chalobah feature as either a four or a five depending on the system.
Andrey Santos and Moises Caicedo has emerged as the preferred pivot in midfield with Enzo Fernandez capable of filling in as the third option. Enzo has been moved to the number ten spot with Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Pedro Neto, and Alejandro Garnacho starting on the wings. Cole Palmer has been in and out of the squad but can play either in that number ten spot or out wide.
Joao Pedro is the in-form striker option but has shared the role with Liam Delap despite the former Ipswich man having just one league goal to date.
The team primarily uses a 4-2-3-1 but have also switched to a 3-4-2-1/3-5-2 system in some matches when their opposition calls for it. The relationship between full back and winger are more standard with overlaps and underlaps offered to avoid 1 v 1s against heavily defensive sides. The team still builds up from the back with the pivot staying closer together to offer options with the goalkeeper playing high and adding another body when trying to bypass the opposition press.
Since making a managerial change, the Blues are on fine form, the two losses to Arsenal are the only blips but the other wins showed a solid ability to outscore their opponents and carve out results when needed. The lack of clean sheets will continue to worry fans and the manager but the current attacking output shuold be enough to get the team over the line and into European football.
According to PremierInjuries, there could be as many as nine different absentees in this one. The manager has inherited a slight injury crisis with minor injuries piling up on top of the long-term absentees. For this one he could be without Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo, Romeo Lavia, Gittens, Filip Jorgensen, James, Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Fofana appears to be getting managed through this season following injury so he could be rested here, the same goes for Joao Pedro who worked quite hard at the weekend and could be left to the substitutes’ bench this time out.
