The Chicago Fire are bringing back one of their own as they looked to the collegiate ranks for their latest roster addition only hours before the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

The Fire signed Fire Academy product Dylan Borso to a Homegrown contract through the 2027 MLS season with Chicago maintaining team options for 2028 and 2029. The news was first reported by Alex Calabrese of MenInRed97.

The fourth signing of the offseason for the Chicago Fire under new director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter, Borso spent the fall playing college soccer at Wake Forest and was a major contributor in their run into the final eight of the 2024 NCAA Men’s College Cup.

Before his time at Wake Forest, Borso made nine appearances and four starts for Chicago Fire II in MLS Next Pro between 2023 and 2024, where he generated three goal contributions for Chicago’s reserves side.

“It’s a dream come true to sign with the Chicago Fire,” Borso said in the announcement. “I would like to thank coach Berhalter and the staff for having confidence in me, and my dad for all his support along the way.

“I would also like to thank all of the coaches and support staff at the club who have helped me grow on and off the field over the past eight years. I’m ready to give my best and bring 100 percent effort on and off the field every day. I’m a competitive guy and I can’t wait to get started playing for this city.”

The 18-year-old is the 25th Homegrown signing in Chicago Fire history.

“Dylan’s journey is a great example of the development pathway that exists for talented young players at the club,” said director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter in the announcement. “From excelling in our academy to gaining valuable professional experience with Chicago Fire II, Dylan has shown impressive determination and growth. After a standout freshman season at Wake Forest, we’re excited to sign him to a Homegrown Player deal and help him continue his development and reach his goals.”
