The United States will host the World Cup again this year, 32 years after their last time staging the event. However, in this edition, they will have Mexico and Canada as co-hosts.

When the US last hosted in 1994, the national team reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by Brazil. Now, there is growing belief that the current generation can go further on home soil.

Christian Pulisic has been one of the leading voices behind that optimism. The AC Milan forward has pointed to a key factor that he believes makes this squad capable of delivering a strong campaign.

Pulisic believes the current United States squad stands out compared to previous groups he has been part of since his debut in 2016.

“I think you could say so,” Pulisic replied when asked by Reuters if this was the best national team squad in which he has played.

He pointed to the level at which his teammates are performing, highlighting their presence across top leagues and consistent impact at club level.

“Looking at the guys playing at the highest levels and doing extremely well at their clubs, and I think for sure you have a really, really strong squad and depth as well.

“Multiple guys that can play in every position. It’s a very strong team.”

Pulisic’s confidence is also shaped by his own form heading into the tournament. He has scored 10 goals and provided three assists for Milan this season.

That marks a clear contrast to his situation before the 2022 World Cup, when he struggled for consistency at Chelsea.

Despite that, he still delivered a solid campaign in Qatar, recording one goal and two assists in four matches.

With improved club form and greater stability, expectations around his performances in 2026 are significantly higher.
