Rosario Central are back on the scene with a decisive move. The Argentine club have travelled directly to England to try to bring back one of the talents that most excites their fans, and that is Alejo Véliz. After a spell with Tottenham, the young attacker could be facing a golden opportunity to return to his homeland and relaunch his career in familiar surroundings. With the new season approaching, the clubs’ movements are accelerating, and Rosario do not want to miss this window. The physical presence of his managers in London shows that they want him now.
As reported by TyC Sports, Rosario Central have submitted a new formal offer to Tottenham to buy 50% of Alejo Véliz’s rights. Gonzalo Belloso, president of the club, and Carolina Cristinziano, vice-president and also his wife, travelled to England to negotiate face to face with the English club’s directors.
The figure has not been disclosed, but it would be in line with a recent proposal from Racing de Avellaneda that was rejected: €4 million plus €3 million in bonuses linked to future transfers. One of the obstacles is a tax issue not clarified by TyC, although Rosario are confident of being able to move forward. Rosario Central had earlier made a formal offer for the 21-year-old Tottenham attacker.
Tottenham have in its hands a situation that can be resolved with logic and foresight. Véliz has failed to settle in London and has hardly had any first-team minutes. Selling 50% of his rights to Rosario would not only allow the English club to recover part of the investment, but they would also keep a future percentage if the player explodes in Argentina and returns to Europe with a better reputation.
It is a move that is closed from the economic point of view. Moreover, in a context where Thomas Frank is looking for more immediate options in attack, getting rid of a player who is not part of the rotation seems reasonable. Despite not shining in England, Véliz has shown character, commitment and physical presence every time he has been on the pitch.
He did not hide in trying moments, and that counts. Rosario know the Argentine, know how to take advantage of his movement in the box, his aerial play and his ability to press high. With the right structure, he can regain his confidence and be decisive in the Argentinian league. Tottenham, on the other hand, would take away a salary burden and open up space for new bets. If both parties act sensibly, the deal could be concluded without major obstacles. Frank, meanwhile, is even looking to sell players like Richarlison.
