Como defender subject of renewed interest from Manchester United

Manchester United’s search for defensive reinforcements has stretched across Europe over the past year, with several young centre-backs finding themselves on the club’s shortlist.

Although Harry Maguire has since committed his future to Old Trafford by signing a new contract, that has not stopped United from keeping tabs on emerging defensive talent capable of strengthening the squad over the coming seasons.

One familiar name has now resurfaced.

Manchester United renew interest in Como defender

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, via the United Stand YouTube channel, Manchester United have renewed their interest in Como defender Jacobo Ramon after first being linked with the Spaniard during the January transfer window, when he was viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Maguire.

The 20-year-old has impressed since moving to Serie A, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s brightest young defenders while thriving under former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

United are not alone in tracking his progress as Chelsea are also understood to admire Jacobo Ramon, with both Premier League clubs monitoring his development.

Despite that interest, however, an immediate transfer appears unlikely.

Jacobs believes the defender is expected to remain at Como for the foreseeable future, with Champions League football offering an ideal platform for his continued development.

The journalist also suggested that, even if a move materialised, Ramon would be viewed as a squad option rather than someone expected to walk straight into the starting XI.

That fits United’s long-term recruitment strategy, with the club continuing to invest in young players capable of developing into future first-team regulars instead of focusing solely on established stars.

For now, though, Como appear determined to keep hold of one of their best players as Ramon continues to enhance his reputation in Italy.
