Today is the day. Inter Milan are set to make the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new coach official.
The Nerazzurri had already decided upon the 44-year-old to replace Simone Inzaghi a few days ago.
On Thursday, Inter chose Chivu, concluding a search of a couple days. This search had seen them try for Cesc Fabregas, and also reportedly consider Patrick Vieira.
However, in the end, Inter went with Treble-winning former defender Chivu. They called the Romanian, and he agreed to step up.
Inter have appointed Cristian Chivu partly based around his time as their youth team coach.
However, the Romanian also impressed with his work in charge of Parma last season.
Chivu took the reins at the Emilian club in midseason, He replaced Fabio Pecchia with the team mired in a relegation battle.
And Chivu found a way to breathe new life into Parma. He tightened up the defense, and got some memorable results – particularly against Serie A’s big names.
This was an important opportunity for Chivu as a stepping stone to Inter.
The coach writes upon his departure from Parma, “I thank the club, staff, players and fans for believing in me and our project.”
“Together we overcame the obstacles,” he continues. “And wrote a chapter that I will always carry in my heart. Thank you Parma!”
