Footballing greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have long shared the limelight in a Golden Age for the sport.
The two have become household names for the Beautiful Game, and Manchester United have been lucky enough to have had Ronaldo at their service across two different stints.
One thing many football fans have shared the longing for is to see the two become teammates.
Ronaldo and Messi were rivals in LaLiga for Real Madrid and Barcelona, but have never come closer than that to sharing a spot in the same starting eleven.
However, this year the two could finally unite.
In December, former Manchester United star Carlos Tevez will hold his farewell match, according to TyC Sports. The game will be held at Boca Juniors’ iconic stadium, La Bombonera.
The outlet reports that both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could be invited to play, with Messi’s allegiances to Argentina’s national side, and Ronaldo’s to Juventus and Manchester United – teams Tevez played for during an illustrious career that he drew the curtain over in June 2022.
There is still no confirmed date for the exciting outing, but TyC say there are two possibilities: the weekend of December 12 and 13 or the following, which would fall on the 19th and 20th.
The game would certainly be one football fans all over the world would tune in for.
The anticipation starts now for the official announcement of a match between two footballing greats. The two share 13 Ballon d’Ors, with Messi winning eight and Ronaldo five.
Despite their sporting rivalry, Ronaldo and Messi have long shared a lot of mutual respect for each other. The prospect of two of the greatest of all time sharing the pitch with the same common goal is worth its weight in gold.
