Less than 24 hours after Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was linked with a shocking move to reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who spent his first six Premier League years (2003-09) with Manchester United, reached an agreement to return to Old Trafford.
Before Ronaldo could be introduced to the United faithful, he offered a farewell to Juventus supporters via Instagram.
"Today I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days. The 'tiffosi bianconeri' always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.
"'Juve, storia di un grande amore
Bianco che abbraccia il nero
Coro che si alza davvero
Juve per sempre sara…'
"I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, tiffosi bianconeri, you’ll always be in my heart."
Ronaldo joined the Italian giants from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 and went on to guide Juventus to a pair of Serie A titles. However, the 36-year-old never came close to winning the UEFA Champions League while calling Italy home, so some will view his stint there as more a failure than a success.
Meanwhile, AS and others note CR7 could make his United re-debut on Saturday, Sept. 11 in a home game versus Newcastle United. An international break will pause major European domestic competitions following this weekend.
