Croatian international Petar Sucic admits he has fulfilled his dream by joining Inter Milan in the summer.

During an interview with FIFA.com via FCInterNews, the 21-year-old also delivered his verdict on AC Milan superstar Luka Modric.

Inter paid Dinamo Zagreb around €15 million to sign Petar Sucic at the start of the summer.

Despite his immense potential, it’s fair to say that the young midfielder has exceeded expectations already.

Indeed, Cristian Chivu has quickly handed him a prominent role in his system.

Furthermore, Sucic has swiftly leapfrogged veteran star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the pecking order.

He has made seven appearances between the Champions League and Serie A, registering two assists.

Needless to say, he also finds himself ahead of Davide Frattesi in the midfield hierarchy.

Meanwhile, Sucic has emerged as Modric’s successor for Croatia, with the 40-year-old approaching the final stages of his career.

Interestingly, Luka Modric also arrived in Serie A this summer, though he signed for Inter’s fierce rivals Milan.

Inter Milan Star Petar Sucic Praises AC Milan Megastar Luka Modric

For starters, Sucic expressed his admiration for Modric.

“It’s really interesting that, by coincidence, we both ended up in the same city, even if in opposing teams,” Modric said.

“Fortunately, Luka’s career has lasted so long that many of us younger players still have the chance to learn from him.

“We see firsthand how much it means to him to play for Croatia and how much he still loves football and being competitive.

“His qualities speak for themselves. Luka is one of the best midfielders of all time.

“He is a complete player who sees everything before anyone else, always finds a solution, and does everything for the team.

“The fact that, at 40, he joined a new club, immediately became the leader and took Milan to a higher level says a lot about him.”

New Surroundings

“I knew I was joining a big club, and the management gave me a clear picture of what to expect and how they saw my role.

“Even though a new coach arrived in the meantime, I’m happy that the adaptation process has gone exactly as they described.

“Obviously, it takes time to adjust: new team, new coach, new league, new city, new language…

“But from Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatian national team, I brought with me something very important for Inter as well; maximum ambition and a winning mentality, the desire to win every match.

“I’m satisfied with how the first few months have gone.

“And I think I’ve played some good games and shown that the team can count on me.

“I’m grateful to all the members of the club for the warm welcome and for helping me settle in quickly.”

Cristian Chivu & Dream Come True

Petar Sucic waxed lyrical about the new Inter Milan boss, Chivu.

“Christian Chivu was a great player and, as such, he perfectly understands the pressure of playing at a club like Inter,” he claimed.

“It’s never easy to take over from a coach who has achieved great success, but he has handled the situation really well.

“I believe we will be competitive again in all competitions because we have a great team.”

Then, Sucic outlined his personal objectives, admitting that joining Inter was a dream come true.

“As far as football is concerned, I have already fulfilled my childhood dreams – playing for the Croatian national team and for a major world club like Inter.

“But I have always been ambitious and, naturally, I am setting new goals – achieving great results both with the national team and with my club.”

Personal Objectives

“Regarding dreams, it would be easy to say,” Sucic continued. “Winning the World Cup, the European Championship with Croatia, or the Champions League with Inter.

“But I have learned that goals are not reached by dreaming, but by working hard, making sacrifices, staying dedicated, step by step.

“Neither Croatia can win the World Cup tomorrow, nor can Inter win the Champions League overnight.

“It’s about progressing phase by phase, match by match, training by training.

“This has always been my approach; it’s how I think. That’s why I am now focused on the next training session after this interview, then the next match, and so on.

“Every success comes from this kind of process.

“I am sure that with the great teammates I have, both in Croatia and at Inter, excellent results will come.”
