Thomas Frank will have to fulfil the lofty expectations in North London after swapping Brentford for Tottenham Hotspur

After Daniel Levy decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou earlier this week, Thomas Frank quickly emerged as his most likely replacement. Now, his role at White Hart Lane has been sealed as Spurs officially announced his appointment as the new head coach.

Thomas Frank will be responsible for creating a Tottenham side capable of competing on multiple fronts next season. He did an impressive job during his seven-year stay at Brentford, overseeing their promotion from the Championship to the Premier League after succeeding Dean Smith. Under the Dane’s coaching, the Bees have established themselves as a strong mid-table outfit in the Premier League.

The 51-year-old’s tactical flexibility, ability to develop players and manage the West Londoners on a limited budget over the years caught the attention of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. These factors perhaps made Frank the No.1 target, and Tottenham have now got their man and his trusted coaching staff.

Having done a great job at Brentford, the expectations of the Spurs fans will be high from Frank. Needless to say, Tottenham is a different kettle of fish altogether than Brentford, so the Danish tactician will need to hit the ground running with his new team next term.

Speaking on talkSPORT show, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor feels expectations will be higher from Frank in North London than what it was during his tenure at Brentford. And for him to succeed at Tottenham next term, Levy must fully back him during the summer transfer window.

“The expectations will be higher you know for next season, they’re gonna want to have a good go at Champions League and Daniel Levy will want him to get out that group stage. He will look at the likes of Aston Villa how well they did in the Champions League, but he’s got to need the right backing,” Gabriel Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.

“Can Daniel Levy help him get rid of the players that aren’t good enough for where Spurs want to go and bring in the players that he wants to bring in? But also, the target it’s always been the same target with Spurs hasn’t it? Top four every season.”

Smart, experience and tactically astute, Frank has come into Spurs probably at the best time. His predecessor, Ange Postecoglou, ended the club’s 17-year-long wait for a trophy by winning the Europa League in May. While he was sadly shown the door, the Australian left our supporters with the belief that this club is very much capable of competing and winning trophies again.

By now, Frank would have understood the demands and ambitions of this football club. He was backed fully at Brentford which allowed them to attain recognition in the Premier League, and the Dane is going to need similar support to bring further glory to Tottenham.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley has backed the Lilywhites to spend big in the transfer market after achieving Champions League football. So, the onus is now all on Levy.
