Tottenham Hotspur wanted Rodrygo Goes in the summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur remained linked with several prominent forwards in the last stretch of the recently-closed summer transfer window as the club wanted to ensure Thomas Frank had enough firepower in his squad for the highly important season ahead in which the North London side would be competing for both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles.

Ultimately, Spurs were able to land Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani before the transfer market closed, however, they were unable to land the other big names that they were interested in. One such player who was continuously linked with the Lilywhites in this time, but ultimately remained at his current club was Rodrygo Goes.

In fact, Tottenham were reported to have submitted a £87 million bid for the Brazilian in the summer. However, Rodrygo’s high wages caused Spurs to go out of running from the race for his signing.

Daniel Levy’s departure can boost Spurs’ chances of landing the Brazilian

The former Executive Chairman of the North London side had generally faced this criticism of not offering competitive enough wages to the biggest names in Europe, which regularly caused them to miss out on the best players and thus unable to land many big titles.

Now, as per a report from GiveMeSport, with Levy’s departure, Tottenham are expected to increase their wage budget for new players, and this change can boost the Lilywhites’ chances of landing Rodrygo.

It remains to be seen how much of change of policy the new administration would bring to Spurs, and whether they would be able to convince the Brazilian to play for them in the future, especially with other big European clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool also reportedly interested in him in the past.

Still, there is also no doubt that Rodrygo would not only bring a lot of quality on the wings to Thomas Frank’s side, but would also bring a lot of experience playing, and making the difference, on the biggest nights in UEFA Champions League football. Thus, the fans would be particularly hoping that this change in management allows them to land the Real Madrid star in the near future.
