Inter Miami CF co-owner David Beckham has addressed the sudden exit of Javier Mascherano from the club.

Mascherano, who guided Inter Miami to an MLS Cup title, announced on Tuesday that he would step down as manager due to personal reasons.

The Argentinian, a former teammate of Lionel Messi for both the national team and Barcelona, took over the role from former manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino in November 2024 and is departing after nearly a year and a half with the organization.

Beckham Reflects on Mascherano’s Departure from Inter Miami

Speaking to CBS Sports, Beckham reflected on the loss of the manager who delivered the club's first major championship.

"With Javier obviously leaving us two days ago, that's a difficult one," Beckham said.

Beckham highlighted the necessity of securing a suitable long-term successor instead of hurried hiring, particularly as Mascherano oversaw Inter Miami's inaugural MLS Cup title in 2025.

"He came off the back of last season by winning our first championship. He's an amazing person, a great coach, the players loved him, but obviously, these things happen in football clubs and we have to move on.”

Regarding the search for Mascherano's successor, the former Real Madrid and England star noted that the club would take time to evaluate its next steps.

“We have to find a new coach at some point. But at the moment, we have to let things settle down. But, like I said, with owning a team, there are always challenges."

In the meantime, Sporting Director Guillermo Hoyos will lead the team as interim head coach. Hoyos discussed his transition into the role and his commitment to the club’s current requirements.

“I am at the club's service, and that means today I'm in a different situation. A couple of days ago, I was in a different role, and I'm here for whatever the club needs. In this case, we're on the front line, as we like to say,” said Hoyos.
