After the match, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong called out Carvajal on his gesture towards Yamal and defended his teammate after the player's words ahead of the match.
After El Clásico, De Jong was asked about the moment involving Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid players. De Jong specifically called out Carvajal, as the defender made a gesture on the pitch.
De Jong thinks that Carvajal could've done behind the scenes, since Yamal and Carvajal are both teammates in the Spanish national team.
De Jong said, "If you know Lamine and think he shouldn't make those statements, you call him privately. I didn't hear Lamine saying that Madrid was stealing directly."
The Barcelona midfielder continued and said, "Carvajal can talk to Lamine in private. Making gestures on the field, you do the same thing. If you’re a teammate and you know him, you can call him instead of doing it on the field."
De Jong also thinks that Yamal's comments were taken out of context. De Jong said, "The truth is, he didn't say much. He was in a situation with the Kings League, which jokes a lot. There were other people saying the statements, and he was there; they focus on him. For me, it is exaggerated what they think Lamine said."
