Having signed for Manchester United during the 2025 summer transfer window, Diego Leon had once appeared to be the next big thing.
The reality last season was far from that, however, with competition from Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui, and Patrick Dorgu meaning that the full-back spent the majority of the campaign in the academy set-up.
This summer’s transfer window has seen many of those who have recently been in the academy leave the club, including Radek Vitek who signed for Middlesbrough and Tyler Fredricson who joined Lausanne-Sport.
With days remaining in the window, Leon’s name has naturally been thrown into the list of possible late departures.
The full-back’s agent, Renato Bittar, has now moved to clarify his player’s future, speaking to the media ahead of the closing days of the transfer window.
Opening up about Diego Leon and the full-back’s future, his agent said: “He’s in a growth process, his body is taking the training load very well.
“His future is still not clear, the club hasn’t asked for his departure.
“We’ll see if anything comes up this week.”
With his agent indicating that Leon is developing well at Manchester United, and with no departure plan set out yet, it appears likely that the full-back will stay at the club for this season.
In previous years, individuals from the youth academy have broken into the first-team and proven their value including Marcus Rashford.
Manager Michael Carrick also turned to more youthful players from the academy last season, and could do the same during this campaign.
Patience, and continued hard work, may be the best strategy, therefore, for the full-back as he aims to play first-team football for the club.
For now, focus will remain purely on continuing his development with the club’s academy.
