Dwight Yorke remains one of Manchester United’s most celebrated former players, having played a crucial role in Sir Alex Ferguson’s historic treble-winning side of 1999.

The former striker joined United from Aston Villa in August 1998, forming a devastating partnership with Andy Cole.

Yorke scored 29 goals during his debut season, helping United win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League before securing two further league titles.

Since retiring, the 54-year-old has pursued management, initially taking charge of Australian side Macarthur FC in 2022.

He guided the club to its first Australia Cup triumph before subsequently becoming head coach of Trinidad and Tobago in November 2024.

However, his international tenure ended in February 2026 following unsuccessful World Cup qualification and disagreements over revised contractual terms.

The former United star has since been searching for another managerial opportunity.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround Michael Carrick’s position at Old Trafford following a disastrous start to the season.

United have won just twice in 11 competitive matches, with Wednesday’s humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como extending their winless run to seven games.

Pressure is mounting on Carrick, whose impressive interim spell and third-place finish last season have quickly become distant memories.

Dwight Yorke confirms contact over Ghana managerial position

Speaking to The Guardian, Yorke confirmed that Dan agent had contacted him regarding interest from Ghana’s national team.

The position became vacant following Carlos Queiroz’s departure on 1 October, with Yorke among several candidates reportedly under consideration.

Yorke explained that an agent informed him of Ghana’s interest before the discussions became public knowledge.

He also expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, highlighting the country’s footballing history and talented squad.

However, the Ghana Football Association has not officially confirmed an approach, and no appointment has been agreed.

Dwight Yorke believes his experience at Macarthur and Trinidad and Tobago demonstrates that he deserves recognition as an established manager rather than simply a former footballer.

For now, the former United striker remains available as he looks to return to management.
