Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to enter a new era ahead of next season getting underway as, regardless of ending their 17-year trophy drought by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in May, Ange Postecoglou was sacked last week.
Thomas Frank is edging towards leaving Brentford to become Ange Postecoglou’s successor, having already agreed terms with Spurs to be in their dugout next season following productive discussions behind the scenes.
The 51-year-old wants to make the switch across the capital which will end his near-seven-year spell with the Bees. The Danish tactician could have a strong influence on what happens at White Hart Lane in the transfer market, and one of his targets has caught the attention of the North Londoners.
According to club insider Paul O’Keefe, Tottenham are showing an interest in signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. They are looking at whether a deal for the Cameroonian international would be plausible. He adds should Thomas Frank take the reins at Spurs, the club will consider trying to bring the 25-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“They [the board] would like to do that deal. I think he’s a player that most definitely is still on their radar. It’s just the funds… Obviously, now you’ve got the extra spanner in the works of their ears being pricked by Thomas Frank with regards to Bryan Mbeumo,” Paul O’Keefe told the Last Word On Spurs.
“Their ears have pricked up over him and that’s something they are looking at currently. I’m not saying they press the button on, but if they get Thomas Frank over the line, then that is someone they would consider.”
Frank appears on board with the prospect of Tottenham upping the ante in their pursuit of Mbeumo, who was sensational for Brentford last season with 20 goals and seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances. However, the biggest concern about a potential move for the left-footed attacker is that Manchester United are currently favourites to land him.
Mbeumo has set his heart on a switch to Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils losing the Europa League final to Tottenham and finishing 15th in the table. After two bids rejected, Man United are advancing towards an agreement with Brentford for the signing of the France-born versatile forward.
This makes it tricky for Tottenham to hijack at the 11th hour, but with Frank closing in on becoming our new gaffer, we must make a big attempt to tempt Mbeumo to ditch Man United and chose White Hart Lane as the next destination of his career.
