Ederson has reached a verbal agreement on personal terms ahead of a potential move, with negotiations between clubs ongoing.

The Atalanta midfielder has emerged as one of the most in-demand profiles in Europe, with discussions currently centres around a fee in the region of €35–40 million.

However, no agreement has yet been reached  between the two clubs as talks continue.

Ederson remains under contract until June 2027, placing Italian Serie A side Atalanta in a decent negotiating position as they look to maximise value in any potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

Their interest was first reported in January 2026.

Developments have now progressed to the point where personal terms have been agreed, marking a significant step towards a full transfer.

Manchester United are no strangers to the situation.

The Red Devils explored a move for the Brazilian midfielder during the January 2024 transfer window and continued to monitor him heading into last summer.

United received a boost in May 2025 as uncertainty grew around his future.

Despite that long-standing interest, United have not advanced their pursuit in recent months, allowing Atletico Madrid to take control of negotiations.

From a tactical perspective, Ederson represents a strong fit for Diego Simeone’s system.

He combined physical presence with mobility, capable of covering large areas of the pitch while also contributing in possession.

His ball-winning ability, alongside his capacity to drive forward, makes him particularly effective in transitional phases.

Comparisons have already been drawn to Manchester United’s former Brazilian midfielder Fred.

For United, this could represent a missed opportunity.

Midfield reinforcements are expected to be a priority following Casemiro’s confirmed departure.

Ederson fits the profile of a modern, dynamic midfielder capable of operating in high-intensity systems.

As talks continue, Atletico Madrid remain in a strong position to complete the deal.

And unless circumstances shift, Ederson now appears closer to a move than ever before.
