England return 'would absolutely feel like coming home' for Christian Eriksen

A report surfaced last week that Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur likely would not welcome midfielder Christian Eriksen back to the club even though Eriksen played under current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, where both won the Serie A title.

Inter terminated Eriksen's contract by mutual consent on Dec. 17 because Italian rules prevent him from playing with his defibrillator coming off the cardiac arrest he suffered during the UEFA European Championship last June, but he previously spent seven years with Tottenham before leaving for Inter in January 2020.

Martin Schoots, Eriksen's agent, has since told the BBC the 29-year-old maestro is training alone in his native Denmark but is open to returning to the Premier League.

"Playing in England again would absolutely feel like coming home for Chris and his family," Schoots explained. "Christian has been treated exceptionally well by the British public, not only because of his top football skills, but also because of his human values, his modesty and altruism."

Eriksen, who turns 30 next month, hasn't competed since his cardiac event but has been linked with eventual moves to leagues in England, Denmark and Holland. Per Chisanga Malata of The Sun, Eriksen thanked fans for messages of support he received while hospitalized during an interview with Danish TV channel DR 1.

He also admitted he remains committed to playing in this year's World Cup that begins in November if he's selected.

Understandably, Eriksen's club and national team careers are very much up in the air this winter, but his overall recovery will forever be one of the positive and remarkable sports stories from 2021.
