The rebuild under Thomas Frank will be one that Tottenham fans will almost certainly relish. The work at Brentford he undertook, essentially polishing diamonds, can only be commended.

According to Footmercato, Spurs are one of several European sides, including Red Bull Leipzig, who have been keen on Timothy Weah.

Weah is hardly the next big thing at the age of 25, but Frank’s calm demeanour and emotional intelligence are what’s crucial when pondering this player. Under coach Thiago Motta, Weah transitioned from a forward/winger to a right-back, and this might be a consideration at Tottenham, who knows?

Our view on Frank possibly working with Weah

Frank balanced attacking intent with defensive solidity, often employing a dogged style in Brentford’s early Premier League years, sitting back when needed but pressing high to win the ball and transition quickly.

The task ahead of Thomas is getting the messaging over to Spurs players in a manner they can digest. The football under Postecoglou secured a trophy, but little else. This is likely to become a familiar refrain with this coach, as he’s demonstrated what he can do at this level, as opposed to in Scotland or Japan.

This could be the coaching hire that makes all the difference for the club, given that Frank fits the profile of what the club wants and what the club can provide.

The key, as ever, will be giving Frank the support he needs, which in this instance will be less than that needed by the likes of José Mourinho and Antonio Conte. In short, Timothy Weah might not be the first name one might suggest when thinking of Spurs this summer, but there are a few elements certainly in his favour. One, that he’s versatile, that he’s keenly priced, and that he would have a forward-thinking coach mentoring him.
