EPL status dependent transfer link makes sense for Spurs

It’s a rumour doing the rounds right now, but it’s far from a done deal. Multiple sources, including Sky Sports, the BBC, and the Spanish outlet Sport, are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have shown “genuine interest” in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer.

Tottenham are being linked as a potential backup destination if the Barca move collapses.  The interest is described as “genuine,” but it’s heavily contingent on Spurs avoiding relegation. As of late April 2026, they’re sitting near the bottom of the Premier League (around 18th, a couple of points from safety with a few games left).

Manager Roberto De Zerbi (or whoever is in charge by then) is reportedly prepared to give Rashford a leading attacking role. It could be a permanent deal or possibly a loan, though wages (Rashford is on high earnings at United) could be an issue.

Marcus Rashford’s 2025/26 performance at Barcelona (on loan from Manchester United) has been solid overall, with strong goal contributions, especially considering he has often rotated or come off the bench.

It’s been a decent revival season for Rashford after his Manchester United struggles: better goal involvement rate than his recent years at Old Trafford, with standout moments in Europe. However, it’s not a career-best explosion (compare to his 30G + 12A in 2022/23 for United). Barcelona have an option to buy for around €30m, but recent reports suggest financial hesitation and a preference for another loan or renegotiation.

Stats can shift slightly in the final weeks of the season (a few La Liga games remain as of late April 2026), but this reflects the picture heading into the run-in. Sources like FC Barcelona’s site, Transfermarkt and Sofascore align closely on the core numbers.

Overperformance on xG is a standout feature of Marcus’ profile: Approximately 12 goals from ~8.32 xG (around +3.7 overperformance) in the data snapshot around mid-April. This indicates good shot selection and clinical finishing rather than relying on high volume.

Marcus Rashford’s advanced metrics at Barcelona (2025/26 loan) show a productive, efficient wide forward who has revived his career in a supporting/rotational role under Hansi Flick. He is not the primary goal threat, behind Lewandowski, but delivers strong goal contributions through clinical finishing, progressive actions, and chance creation.

All in all, he’s still an asset, but will Spurs match his ambitions?
