Erik ten Hag makes decision on becoming Netherlands manager
USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Connect

The future of Erik ten Hag has been the subject of fresh speculation following Ronald Koeman’s departure.

The former Manchester United manager was heavily linked with the vacant Netherlands job.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Ten Hag was among the leading candidates being considered by the KNVB.

Former United striker and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was also named in the shortlist.

However, a fresh update has now emerged on the Dutchman’s stance.

Ten Hag makes his final decision

According reported by Dutch outlet RTV Oost, Erik ten Hag has confirmed he will not become the next Netherlands manager.

He made it clear that he has no intention of leaving his current role at FC Twente.

Speaking from Twente’s pre-season training camp, the 56-year-old insisted he has already made his decision.

“At this moment, for the next two years, I am not available. I have chosen this; it is a conscious decision. I have weighed the options. I have stepped in here and I am working to help Twente move forward. I am going all out for that,” Ten Hag said.

The update ends speculation that he could replace Koeman following the Netherlands’ disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Koeman stepped down after the Round of 32 defeat, prompting the KNVB to begin its search for a successor ahead of the upcoming Nations League campaign.

Ten Hag had been viewed as one of the strongest candidates after returning to Dutch football as FC Twente’s technical director following his spell with the Red Devils.

Other names to have been linked with the vacancy include Arne Slot, Peter Bosz, Michael Reiziger and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
