Eva Olid takes charge of first Manchester United game

Eva Olid has joined Manchester United ahead of the new season which starts in just a matter of weeks.

Whilst Michael Carrick became the head coach of the men’s first team earlier this year, Olid takes over from Marc Skinner as head coach of Manchester United Women.

The 40-year-old guided Hearts Women to the Scottish Women’s Premier League title last season, earning 62 points across 28 league games, but left the Scottish side following this.

Now, she takes over the task of head coach at Manchester United Women in an increasingly demanding role.

Whilst Manchester United Women are due to face London City Lionesses in their first Women’s Super League fixture of next season on Friday 4th September, the side will also play in a number of pre-season friendlies prior to that.

Now, with preparations for the season ramping up, Eva Olid has taken charge of her first game with Manchester United Women with the team facing Leicester City Women in a pre-season game.

Leicester, of Women’s Super League 2, finished bottom of the WSL last season and lost their qualification match against Charlton Athletic Women meaning they will play in the second tier of women’s football for next season.

Going up against the Foxes, Manchester United Women drew 1-1 with Elizabeth Terland on the score-sheet for the Red Devils.

With the manager having taken charge of her first match, focus will now switch towards instilling her tactics onto the team before the league campaign starts at the beginning of September.

Manchester United Women are due to travel to Spain in the coming weeks for a pre-season camp before returning to England for the start of the season.

During their trip to Spain, Eva Olid’s side will face Newcastle United in a behind-closed-doors match.
