Diego Leon, who was signed from Cerro Porteno during the winter transfer window, finally arrived this summer.
Unfortunately, the left-back had to wait until after his 18th birthday to formally join United because he was only 17 years old at the time, delaying his transfer until the summer transfer window.
The Paraguayan has been in and around the first team since the start of the season, even making a few bench appearances for the first team.
However, in recent weeks he has been featuring more often with the U21s as he gets used to English football.
The Red Devils view the left-back as a talent with high potential, but he needs minutes in order to develop properly.
This is why a decision has come on his future ahead of the January window.
CentreDevils understands that Diego Leon is expected to go on loan to OGC Nice in Ligue One.
INEOS are using their connections with the French club to facilitate this move.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s company, INEOS, owns both OGC Nice and a significant stake in Manchester United.
To comply with UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules, both clubs are currently blocked from transferring players between each other.
This agreement was in place until September 2025.
We can also reveal that the defender is expected to be involved with the first team of the French club.
The Paraguayan himself has pushed for a loan move in this January window, with the club agreeing that it’s the best way to further his development.
The loan is expected to be 6 months with no options or obligations to buy
Leon made 33 appearances for Cerro Porteno, even grabbing four goals, grabbing the eye of United, making it odd that the left-back has only been used in one Under-21s game.
