Manchester United’s involvement in domestic cup competitions was cut short far earlier than expected.

The Red Devils were knocked out by Brighton & Home Albion in the third-round of the FA Cup earlier this year.

That defeat ensured the club failed to build any momentum in the competition.

United had already fallen at the first hurdle in the Carabao Cup after a shock defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town in the second round.

Despite those disappointments at senior level, there remains a chance for silverware at the club this season.

Another Manchester United side has continued to progress in one of England’s most historic competitions, keeping hopes of lifting a trophy alive.

Focus has now shifted towards the FA Youth Cup, where the club’s academy players have impressed throughout the campaign to reach the latter stages.

We have already covered how Manchester United advanced through earlier rounds of the FA Youth Cup to set up a semi-final tie with Crystal Palace.

Today, Manchester United hosted Palace at Old Trafford.

United broke the deadlock in the 77th minute through JJ Gabriel.

Chido Obi played a key role in that goal.

However, just 60 seconds later, Raihaan Anderson equalised for Crystal Palace following a goalkeeping error by Cameron Byrne-Hughes.

The tie went to extra-time and in the 118th minute, Chido Obi went round the keeper to win it for the home side.

The result has now secured Manchester United’s place in the FA Youth Cup final for the 2025/26 season.

The Football Association’s official website have confirmed that United will face Manchester City in the final on May 9.

They booked their spot with a convincing 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the other semi-final.

The final sets up a Manchester derby on the big stage.

Both academies are among the strongest in the country in recent years.

United’s history in this competition is well documented, with many first-team stars having emerged through strong FA Youth Cup campaigns.

Now, with the final confirmed, the club’s next generation has the opportunity to write their own chapter and deliver silverware.
