Manchester United center midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and striker Joshua Zirkzee are squarely on the transfer radars of top clubs around the continent, as they are two talented young players currently on the periphery of Ruben Amorim’s squad plans.
Zirkzee is the only backup striker to Benjamin Sesko, who is currently injured, while Mainoo is one of the biggest gems at Man United and was once highly important to the club before Amorim bizarrely discarded him.
So Manchester United don’t really want to sell either talented footballer in the January transfer window and hurt their depth in a tight Champions League race, but they may not have the grace to do so.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Napoli have Kobbie Mainoo on their shortlist of midfield targets, as Antonio Conte really wants to bolster his squad after a disappointing start the 2025/26 season following his magical Scudetto triumph in 2024/25.
Mainoo is a great box-to-box player would could transform Napoli further, but after watching what Conte did with Scott McTominay in turning him into the literal Serie A MVP last season, the Red Devils have to be scared about what Mainoo could do with the Partenopei if sold to Conte this winter.
Romano thus states that everything is still in Manchester United’s court, and, currently, the Red Devils are not planning on allowing the English talent to leave their club.
